Información para la Prensa N°:

The 2nd Argentina-Qatar Political Consultations Meeting was held today at the Palacio San Martín. The Meeting was chaired by Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Raimondi and the Qatari State Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi.

The Deputy Foreign Ministers underscored the excellent state of bilateral relations evidenced by the constant flow of trips and visits by high-ranking officials, such as the State Visit to Buenos Aires by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in July 2016 and the official visit by Vicepresident Gabriela Michetti to Qatar in November 2016.

The delegations underscored the importance of reinforcing and strengthening the bilateral relationship and boosting cooperation, trade and investment. In that vein, they explored possibilities in the fields of agro-industry, mining, finances, communications, renewable energy, ports and airports infrastructure, gas and petroleum, software, innovation and cybersecurity.

The delegations also addressed other areas of the bilateral relationship, such as the agreements under negotiation on agriculture and scientific-technical matters, among others, as well as cooperation among diplomatic training institutions.

They also welcomed the recently signed Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation (signed last April), which adds to the Treaty on the Promotion and Protection of Investments, currently being reviewed in Congress.

In addition, the delegations reviewed the global agenda and the respective regional situations and agreed on the importance of finding political solutions to conflicts through dialogue and negotiation, as well as respect for international law principles, international humanitarian law and the relevant United Nations resolutions.

The Argentine Republic and the State of Qatar established diplomatic relations in 1974 and opened Embassies in their respective capital cities in 2013.
